EFFINGHAM, Ga. -

An Arizona man has been arrested in Georgia for attempting to meet an underage girl for sex, according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

Steven Schlesselman, 45, of Maricopa County, allegedly solicited sex from who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. In fact, he had been communicating with a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Schlesselman had been chatting with the undercover deputy for several weeks and had indicated he wanted to go to Georgia to have sex with the child, said sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor.

They arranged to meet at a gas station at Georgia 17 at Midland Road.

Schlesselman landed in Atlanta about 5 p.m. Sunday, then rented a vehicle and drove to Effingham County, detectives say. When he stopped at the gas station, he was arrested.

Authorities arrested Schlesselman on charges of attempt to commit child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. He is being held at Effingham County Jail.

Detectives believe his only reason for the trip was to have sex with the 14-year-old.

On Tuesday, authorities said bond was denied for Schlesselman.
