CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

One teenager was fatally shot and a second, who was wounded, has been charged with drug possession after what police believe was a drug-related shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood Sunday night, authorities said.

The teens were in the 1100 block of North Harding Avenue when they were shot about 7 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said, citing preliminary information.

A 16-year-old boy who was shot in the chest ran to a playlot in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road, where paramedics found him, police said. The teen was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The medical examiner's office identified him as Jeffrey Stewart of the 1500 block of West Race Avenue.

A 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his pinky finger, police said, adding that he was in good condition.

Anton Reed, of the 4100 block of West Kamerling Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after vomiting up three plastic bags of suspected cocaine on his way to the hospital, police said.

A police source claimed the shooting was drug-related.

A woman who lives in the area said she has seen people selling drugs on a street corner near where the shooting took place. The woman, who asked not to be named in fear of retaliation, said the dealers are on the street "all day, everyday."

Another woman said she was home with her son when she heard about 12 gunshots. She said she first heard about six shots, then silence, followed by another six shots.

"I was scared," the woman said, asking to remain anonymous due to safety concerns. "They usually shoot a few times and then stop. But this time they didn't, and stray bullets have been known to go through windows."

Investigators Sunday night were collecting details on the shooting, which took place not far from a blue-light police camera.
