CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Dreaming of a white Christmas? Dream harder.
Chicago's snowless streak could break a 1994 record - hard to believe for Chicagoan Kayla Heyward.
"That would be surprising but I think it's coming though, I like snow so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed," said Heyward.
While inside, families packed the Arctic Ice Skating Rink, brave ones braced the Extreme Ice Trail Ropes Course and snowflakes decorated Navy Pier's Winter Wonderfest, outside there were no signs of snowfall.
Nick Shields explained how the snowless weather helps bring Winter Wonderfest to life.
"It's been great for Navy Pier. We have Winter Wonderfest going on right now and we've just had so many people coming here to enjoy our rides and attractions. There might not be a lot of snow outside but there's a lot of holiday festivities here," said Shields, Communications Director at Navy Pier.
The National Weather Service says the city could break an 18 year record for most consecutive days without measurable snowfall if Monday remains another snowless day.
It's hard to believe that it was just two years ago Chicago was buried by the Blizzard of 2011.
The 1994 record was set with 280 days between measurable snowfalls.
Despite Chicago's snowless spell, a winter storm in Western Wisconsin and Michigan is expected to dump more than six Inches of snow by Monday morning.
Chicago's Monday forecast is chilly with a chance of setting a new snowless record and that's ok with 9 year old Jaelyn Burgos.
"I sort of don't want snow," said Burgos.
"That would be great. I hate the snow… I know I know. It's only nice on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day," said Krystal Bender.
