Police are crediting a Good Samaritan for the arrest of a North Side man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in the Uptown neighborhood early Sunday and then tried getting away from cops on his bicycle.
Police found a 32-year-old woman who had been robbed and sexually assaulted in the 4400 block of North Sheridan Road about 1:40 a.m. after receiving a call of a sexual assault in progress, according to a release from the Chicago Police Department's News Affairs office.
A witness came forward and pointed police in the direction of the alleged rapist, who was pedaling away on a bicycle, police claim. The man was told to stop, police said, but he allegedly refused and police ran after him.
He was eventually caught and identified as Jason Gurneau, 32, of the 1000 block of West Lawrence Avenue. Gurneau was charged with robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated criminal sexual assault and two counts of resisting a police officer.
Gurneau is expected to appear in bond court on Monday.
