ATLANTA (AP) - The Fulton County district attorney has concluded that a MARTA police officer was justified in using deadly force in the shooting death of a 19-year-old during a fight at a train station last year.
District Attorney Paul Howard said in a statement Monday that the investigation into the shooting of Joetavius Stafford included interviews with more than 40 witnesses, a review of DNA and other scientific results and expert analysis.
Howard said Officer Robert Waldo saw Stafford fire into a crowd and believed Stafford might shoot him.
Greg Feagle is a lawyer representing Stafford's family in a wrongful death lawsuit against MARTA and Waldo. He says he doesn't believe the evidence shows Stafford shot into a crowd. He also said Stafford had his hands up and was trying to surrender.
