On Monday's Chat Room, SunTimes Splash Editor Susanna Negovan and consultant Rochelle Trotter chat about casinos and classifications.
Governor Quinn and Mayor Emmanuel are close to an agreement which would allow Chicago to have its own casino. Susanna thinks this a good idea, as this would allow the revenues and taxes from the casino to remain in Chicago versus having people travel out of the city to gamble. Rochelle cautiously agreed, stating the job and revenue creation would be good but the impact it has on the lower income population (who tend to gamble more) needs to be carefully monitored.
Next up, the word "feminist" is somehow being classified as potentially negative by celebrities like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry who openly state they are not feminists. Susanna thinks the word may still be too closely related to outdated things like wild-eyed activists from the 70s. Rochelle stated these ladies are defacto feminists, as they work hard to obtain fair pay and access in what has traditionally been a male dominant entertainment area.
