CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 49-year-old West Side man, upset with the man who is dating his 25-year-old daughter, tried to shoot the man on Saturday, but wound up shooting his daughter instead, when she stepped in-between the two men. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and her father, who is a convicted felon and documented gang member, was arrested shortly thereafter and is due in court for a bond hearing Sunday.

About 2 p.m. on Saturday, during a domestic dispute at their home in the 4900 block of West Quincy Street, Dante White allegedly took out a handgun and attempted to shoot a 26-year-old man who is dating his daughter, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

White's 25-year-old daughter though, in an attempt to keep her father from shooting her boyfriend, stepped in front of him, and was accidentally struck in the arm by the bullet that was intended for her boyfriend, Kubiak said.

The daughter's boyfriend was apparently not injured in the incident.

White fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later. His daughter was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of her gunshot wound.

White, who police say is a convicted felon and documented gang member, was charged with one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and one count of possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

White was scheduled to be in court at 26th and California for a bond hearing on Sunday.
