A group of community activists are hoping to get people taking. They say they're outraged that three children were shot in southwest Atlanta, but no has been arrested.
Community leaders say if you keep quiet, you're part of the problem. They want everyone who has an interest in children to get involved and find the people who shot these young kids.
Police say 2-year-old Ty-Teyanna Motley was shot and killed as they slept, and her 1-year-old brother, Isaiah was also shot. Then, on Tuesday of this week, a man fired a rifle through a family's front door less than a quarter-mile away, hitting an 11-year-old girl during an attempted robbery.
Community activists have donated their personal money toward a $6,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter. One of them, Derrick Boazman, told FOX 5 there are signs that there is trouble in the neighborhood where the shootings took place—like tennis shoes hanging from power lines. He says police have told him that means drugs are either being sold or can be purchased in the neighborhood.
These community stakeholders say it's time for everyone to roll up their sleeves and get involved. They've called for an emergency summit against crime next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Victory Outreach Church on Metropolitan Parkway. Organizers promise this will not be just another discussion about the problem, but instead they'll offer useful information that those who attend can take away from the session.
