A 34-year-old union electrician from Highland plans to help his mother, start a college fund for his daughter and take his girlfriend to Red Lobster after winning $1 million in Wednesday night's historic $587.5 million Powerball drawing.
Powerball officials say two winning tickets for the big jackpot were sold in Arizona and Missouri.
Larry Chandler drove down to Indianapolis early Thursday to claim his $1 million prize on his ticket that matched five of the six numbers drawn.
After a short celebration, Chandler said he'll be back on the job Monday morning after he meets with a tax adviser and a financial planner.
The winning numbers in Wednesday night's drawing: 5-16-22-23-29 with 6 as the Powerball number.
Chandler, who chose his own numbers, matched the first five of those numbers, but not the Powerball number. He smiled as he claimed his prize.
"This doesn't happen to me!" Chandler said. "It's crazy. I've never won anything."
Chandler purchased his million-dollar ticket at Highland Citgo at 8317 Kennedy Ave., Highland.
Stella Beaver, an employee at the Citgo station, said customers asked cashiers all day if they had sold the winning ticket. "We don't know which one of us sold it, we're waiting to find out," she said. "I'm excited we did have one out of here."
Indiana had another $1 million winner from a Powerball ticket purchased in Vincennes by retired National Park Service employee Pat Wilkerson. She shared her winnings with her two children.
Meanwhile, Hoosier Lottery officials say they're still waiting for the $10.5 million winner from the Nov. 17 Hoosier Lottery drawing to come forward.
That ticket was purchased at Nagra's Quick Mart, 4321 E. Dunes Highway in Gary.
