CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The grandmother of two young children, who was given custody last year after their mother faced allegations of abuse and neglect, has now been charged with beating and burning the children.

The children, a 5-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, have now been taken from the grandmother and placed with other family members as the state Department of Children and Family Services investigates new allegations of abuse and neglect against the grandmother.

Goldine Williams, 47, of the 7500 block of South Kingston Avenue, was ordered held on a $200,000 bond Thursday after being charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child under 13 (Class 3 felony), according to police.

According to police, Williams struck, beat, and burned the two children on more thanone occasion, including Oct. 18, when the incidents that led to the charges allegedly occurred.

The children have now been taken from the grandmother's home and placed with other relatives, DCFS spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said.

The children were taken from their biological mother in 2008 because of substantiated claims of abuse and neglect, according to DCFS. The agency placed the children with Williams in December 2008 and worked with her until she was given guardianship in December 2011, Whitelow said.

Williams' next court date is Dec. 3 in Domestic Violence court (Br. 64) at 555 W. Harrison St., according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
