CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 16-year-old boy was shot three times Wednesday afternoon in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood, after allegedly shouting gang slogans at another person.

The shooting happened about 3:48 p.m. in the 4200 block of West Wabansia Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.

He was standing outside and had exchanged gang slogans with an unknown male when a second male approached and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen, hip, and knee, O'Brien said.

No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating.
