It's a busy week at the Georgia Dome. The Atlanta Falcons host their NFC South rivals, the New Orleans Saints, on Thursday night, and then on Saturday, it's the SEC Championship game between UGA and Alabama. So how do dome crews make that transition so quickly?
Two sellout events in such a short period of time puts a lot of pressure on crews to transform the field and the stadium itself in a matter of hours. On Wednesday, ground crews put the finishing touches on the turf. NFL Network workers set up their stage to broadcast Thursday's game.
The transition to the SEC Championship will start before the last fan even leaves the Falcons game. Crews will tackle trash, take down Falcons banners, and hang SEC signs in their place. Then, the repainting starts-- with Georgia and Alabama's logos taking over the end zones. Crews will also restock concession stands, clean parking lots--- you name it.
Georgia Dome spokesman Jason Kirksey says the goal is to make sure SEC fans walk in and have no idea that the Falcons played there two days earlier.
