LAKE VILLA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A motorist was killed and his passenger injured when a car left the road and crashed into a north suburban lake early Friday in Lake Villa.

A Pontiac Aztek traveling east on Eagle Drive crashed into Lake Miltmore near Nathan Hale Drive in Lake Villa about 1:50 a.m., according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff's office.

The car had driven about 200 feet through a yard and struck a boatlift before landing upside down about 50 feet into the lake, the sheriff's office said.

Responding officers pulled a passenger out of the car but were unable to rescue the driver, the sheriff's office said. The Lake Villa Dive Team was called and eventually removed the driver, 18-year-old Angel B. Flores of Lindenhurst.

Paramedics took Flores to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was declared dead, the sheriff's office said. The passenger was also taken to Condell Medical Center.

Four sheriff's police deputies who entered the water to make the rescue were treated on the scene, the sheriff's office said.
