DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - A crime alert was issued after Wayne State University Police say a 25 year-old female student reported she was the victim of an attempted sexual assault.

Police said the woman called them to say she was accosted by a man in a stairwell at the Old Main building on campus.  The woman said she was walking up a stairwell between 8:40 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. last Thursday when a man who was walking down the same stairs grabbed her and pulled her sweat pants down.  The student said she kicked the man in the groin and was then able to run away and lock herself in a bathroom where she awaited help.

Police said the student was not hurt and waited two days before notifying them.

A suspect is described as a black male in his forties, six feet tall with gray hair, a goatee and a heavy build.  He was said to be wearing a black skull cap and a red hoodie with blue denim pants.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the WSUPD at (313) 577-2222.
