Cops: Indoor garden shop employees sold pots, pot

LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two employees of a northwest suburban company that sells indoor gardening supplies may have been growing more than flowers and now they face drug charges.

McHenry County authorities, acting on a tip that employees were selling cannabis at Big Grow Hydroponics in Lake in the Hills, executed a search warrant and arrested 22-year-old John E. Czaplicki and 40-year-old Michael J. Singley, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's office.

Big Grow, at 9225 Trinity, sells indoor gardening supplies, soil and fertilizers, according to the company website.

But deputies seized about 1,200 grams of cannabis, a digital scale, packing materials, drug paraphernalia, $1,615 in cash and a Scion Tc vehicle, a release from the sheriff's office said. The drugs had a street value of about $11,000.

Czaplicki, 22, of Gurnee, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful delivery of cannabis, sheriff's police said. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond and will be back in court Nov. 29.

Singley, 40, of Rockton, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, sheriff's police said. He was ordered held on $20,000 bond and will be back in court Nov. 28.
