ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A northwest suburban man was convicted last week of fatally stabbing his wife in front of their 9-year-old daughter.
Heriberto Ramirez, 50, was convicted last week of first-degree murder, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said. He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 19 in Rolling Meadows.
Cook County Sheriff's police responded about 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2011, to Ramirez' home in the 400 block of West Touhy Avenue in an unincorporated area near Des Plaines. Police had received a 911 call from a young girl, who told dispatchers her father was "hitting" her mother, according to the sheriff's office.
At the home, police found Alicia Ramirez, 45, dead in the bathroom with multiple stab wounds, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy confirmed she died from multiple stab wounds and ruled her death a homicide.
The Ramirez' daughter was taken into protective custody, sheriff's police said.
Deputies had responded to two previous reports of verbal altercations at the home in the past few years, the sheriff's office said.
