Annual Geneva illumination ceremony kicks off holiday season

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Grand Geneva Illumination Ceremony in Geneva is this Sunday marking the start of a six week long "Christmas in the Country" festival.

At 4:30 Sunday afternoon, kids can see Christmas characters and Christmas performances during the day. Then at night, Santa Claus takes a break from wrapping gifts to lead people outside to see thousands of lights turned on and the Christmas decorations lit on the Grand Geneva campus.

That too ends with a big fireworks display.

Best of all, it's free. They are encouraging people to bring an unwrapped toy or article of clothing to donate to the Toys For Kids organization.
