CDC: 60% of America’s largest cities are now smoke-free

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

30 of the 50 largest U.S. cities are now smoke-free.

Researchers with the Centers for Disease Control say nearly half of all Americans are protected by state or local smoke-free laws, including Chicago, compared to less than 3% 12 years ago.

Ten of the 20 largest cities without comprehensive smoke-free laws are in the south.

The CDC says smoke-free laws would better protect an additional 16 million people in cities without such laws from cancer and heart disease caused by secondhand smoke.
