Firefighters extinguish two-alarm fire in South Chicago

Fire fighters battled a two-alarm blaze that erupted in a two-story building in the South Chicago neighborhood Friday morning.

The still and box alarm fire was reported at 3:10 a.m. in a vacant two-story building in the 8700 block of South Escanaba Avenue, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor said. The fire was escalated to a 2-11 alarm at 3:20 a.m.

No one was injured in the blaze, but six people in a neighboring two-story frame building were displaced, MacGregor said.

The fire was extinguished at 4:50 a.m.
