The Talker: Is voicemail on it's way out?

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Jay-Z gave the actor Robert Deniro a shout-out in the hit song "Empire State of Mind," but there has been a little tiff between the stars.

An awkward moment happened at a recent charity bash. The New York Post says when Jay-Z went to say hello to Deniro, the actor harshly scolded him. Jay-Z supposedly had agreed to record a song for Deniro's Tribeca Film Festival, but never returned Deniro's follow-up phone messages.

A source at the party says Jay-Z tried to keep it light, saying he's terrible about using the phone. But, Deniro wouldn't let him off the hook, saying, "when someone calls you six times, you call them back."

The source says Deniro told Jay-Z that his behavior was rude and disrespectful. We hear even Beyonce couldn't get him to chill out. No one is going to argue with a ticked-off Robert Deniro.

Still, by today's standards it's debatable as to whether Jay-Z did anything wrong.

Voicemail has been on its way out. In fact, a study three years ago found 20% of people didn't even check their voicemail. Newer data indicates the trend has grown, especially among young people.

A generational difference could at play between Jay-Z, who's 42, and Deniro, who's 69.

What do you think? If someone leaves you a voicemail, will you check it and call them back or is it too inconvenient to be bothered with? Is it socially acceptable to ignore voicemails? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.
