Emanuel proposes one-time charge on residents` electric bill

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proposed a one-time electricity charge, which Chicago residents would have to pay in addition to their electrical bill.

The proposal comes after 56% of Chicago voters voted "yes" on the referendum to allow the city to negotiate for lower rates.

Emanuel said the one-time charge would pay to the potential vendor.

But not everyone is on board. Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) said it could end up being a substantial cost to consumers in a program that was supposed to save money.
