Court date set for Rep. Derrick Smith, indicted on bribery charges

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Newly re-elected state representative Derrick Smith will be in court in just under a year.
Ill. Rep. Smith is facing federal bribery charges, and the trial date is set for Oct. 21, 2013.
Lawmakers voted to expel Smith from the house in August, after his indictment. The state congressman cannot be expelled again on the same charge, unless he is found guilty.
Smith pled not guilty in April. Officials said they have a recording of him requesting a cash bribe.
