A DuPage County judge has ordered a mental examination for a Naperville woman accused in the stabbing death of her 7-year-old son and a 5-year-old girl she was babysitting.
The Daily Herald reports Judge Robert Kleeman granted a prosecution request Tuesday to evaluate Elzbieta Plackowska. Public defender Mike Mara objected and wanted the matter postponed.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said he believes Plackowska's attorneys may use an insanity defense.
The 40-year-old was arrested last month after police went to the home and found the children dead.
Berlin said Plackowska first told police she killed the children because she believed the devil was inside them. He said she later admitted she killed her son to hurt her husband, and the girl because she was a witness.
