High winds and rain roll through Chicago

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

What started as a picture perfect Sunday, that felt more like a cool breezy spring day, quickly turned to a snapshot of what's to come.

Rain, wind and cooler weather is expected to return to Chicago this week - much more than the intermittent Sunday storms that sparked rolling power outages across Chicagoland and surrounding suburbs.

"About 2:10pm the power went out. We called ComEd and they're not responding on the phone and then finally we got an automated response and they said hold on and they never came back and that's all we know. We have no power," said Gerri Giglio, an Elmwood Park resident.

ComEd crews worked into the evening to restore power. The outages were sporadic. At the peak, a reported 25,000 Chicago area customers were in the dark.

"Everyone that I know had power except this one little section. I have relatives in Elmwood Park and they all have power. The other side of this street has power and right there, as you can see, they have power," said Giglio.

Relief and restored power came for Giglio Sunday evening.

A ComEd worker told Fox Chicago News, "Power should be on in the neighborhood."

By Sunday evening, the number of reported power outages was down but the rain and wind continued.

In Downtown Chicago, Bears fans prepared to weather the storm but looked on the bright side.

"If it doesn't get any worse than this, it will be great for this time of November. Even with the rain and wind, that's what this is for," said Dennis Harn, a Peoria resident.

"A little snow would just put the pudding on it and if the Bears win, we'll be really happy - the Chicago Bears, we like cold, windy, snowy weather," said Carol Harn.
