Derrick Smith says he's ready to get back to work

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

State representative-elect Derrick Smith says he's ready to go back to work with the colleagues who kicked him out.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to federal bribery charges.

Fellow members of the state house expelled him earlier this year but voters in the 10th District re-elected him anyway.

Smith stood with his attorneys Thursday and refused to talk about the charges. He said he's just glad voters believe in him.

Smith cannot be expelled from the state legislature again on the same charges.
