Sauk Village mayor steps down

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

South suburban Sauk Village has a new mayor after the old one abruptly resigned late Wednesday.

Trustee David Hanks will fill the role until the April election.

Decisions by embattled former Mayor Lewis Towers were being questioned.

This past summer, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency declared the village's drinking water unsafe after years of warnings.

That led the village to spend about $1 million on legal fees and new equipment.
