Bob Sirott’s One More Thing about the Chicago Fire Department

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about the Chicago Fire Department.

On this day that the department handed out its courage and valor awards for distinguished service, and also buried Captain Herbert Johnson. Maybe it's a good time to think about a new annual award--one that would recognize someone who not only helps the public, but is an inspiration to fellow firefighters, someone whose jovial infectious personality keeps morale up, a fireman's fireman. They should call the award "The Herbie."

They say every firehouse has a Herbie Johnson. Why not honor them? Present the winner with a Chicago Fire Department helmet smeared with soot. Just like the one that was on a pedestal in the chapel today, a few feet from Captain Herbert Johnson.
