Alert issued after armed robberies in Fuller Park area

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Following three armed robberies in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood -- one of which ended with the victim being shot several times -- police have issued an alert to warn area residents.

In all three reported incidents, the offenders approached the victims, displayed a handgun and demanded property. Two of the incidents happened on the same block.

Robberies occurred in the 300 block of West 47th Street on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5 about 8 p.m., and in the 4800 block of South Princeton on Nov. 5 at about noon.

The father of one of the victims, a 31-year-old man who was also shot several times after he was robbed in the 300 block of West 47th Street on Monday night, called for a greater police presence in the area.

In that incident, the victim was walking home from a bus stop at 47th and Wentworth when he saw two males dressed in black and wearing masks in a nearby alley, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

The men approached and displayed a handgun, then demanded the victim's coat, at which time he struggled with them. They shot him multiple times in the chest, arms and legs, then went through the pockets of the coat and took a wallet and cell phone.

The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, Kubiak said.

"He's a mess," the victim's father, Martin Kuber, said Wednesday, adding that his son will likely have to go through many medical procedures for his injuries.

Kuber said even though the two robbers got everything the victim had, "they shot him anyway."

Kuber, who at the time was not aware of the other robberies, said on Wednesday that he thinks there should be a greater police presence near the viaduct where the attack took place, calling it dark and dangerous.

"This is an area where there should be a squad car there anyway," Kuber said. " I'd hate to see someone else walking under there and get hurt."

The offenders were described as two to three black males between 18 and 28, 5-foot-6 to 6-foot-2, average weight and wearing dark clothes, hoods and masks.
