Dixmoor trustee arrested after domestic incident

DIXMOOR, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A village trustee in south suburban Dixmoor is in police custody once again, this time for a domestic incident in which a woman in her 60s was injured, a town spokesman said Thursday.

Trustee Michael Smith was arrested following an incident that "appears to be domestic in nature," village spokesman Sean Howard said.

The woman involved, who is over the age of 60 -- Smith is 23 -- is undergoing treatment at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Howard said.

Dixmoor police will conduct a press conference at 3 p.m. at the Village Hall at 170 W. 145th St. to discuss the arrest, Howard said.

Smith was indicted last month on three counts of official misconduct, two counts of forgery and two counts of theft, according to court records and police.

Dixmoor Police Chief Lanell Gilbert said Smith impersonated a village police officer to put $15 worth of gas in his car at a Mobil station in Harvey in April 2011. The only employees allowed to gas up include police, firefighters and public works employees.

Smith was also arrested in 2011 outside his grandmother's house in Dixmoor, and charged with resisting arrest and driving without a license.

He was elected to the village board when he was 18.
