DETROIT (WJBK) -- There was slipping and sliding on slick, icy pavement created by a water main break at Conner and Wade on Detroit's east side.  It's the reason two police officers were rushed to the hospital early Thursday morning.

We were able to capture pictures from SkyFox of where the officers' police car veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Yoseff Hassan owns the BP gas station near the broken water main.  He says cars lose control and swerve dangerously close to his pumps.

"It happens, I think, three, four times a year and it's never fixed.  They come and patch it and leave and it happens again," he said.

Mayor Dave Bing's press secretary, Anthony Neely, released the following statement.

"The Conner / Wade intersection is a location that has had a slow, intermittent leak for several months.   Our Water Department's efforts to find the leak have been unsuccessful, but now that it has apparently surfaced and created a hazard, the department is exposing the main in the area in order to locate the source.  We hope to find it quickly and eliminate the inconvenience to residents, businesses and traffic in the area."
