DETROIT (WJBK) -- Firefighters extinguished a blaze that destroyed a 100-year-old building in the city's Mexicantown neighborhood.

Officials say the fire that broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday inside the building on Vernor Highway and Hubbard looks to be suspicious.

Crews say the building was vacant, but three residents in an adjoining apartment complex were safely evacuated.

An investigation into the fire's cause is ongoing.
