CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Authorities found a body "burnt beyond recognition" in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood Tuesday night.

Fire Department crews responded to the 3100 block of North Central Park Avenue just after 9 p.m. and found the body of an adult male dead at the scene near a garbage can, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The body had been "burnt beyond recognition," Fire Media Affairs said.

Fire department officials said police designated the area a crime scene. A police spokesman said Area North detectives are conducting a death investigation but had no further details.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office sent an investigator to the scene, but could not immediately confirm the fatality.
