CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Fox News projects that Speaker John Boehner's Republicans will retain control, which is good news for Wheaton's Rep. Peter Roskam, the number four-ranking leader in the House.
Among the winners Tuesday, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., stands out. He never made even one campaign appearance and was in and out of mental health facilities being treated for what a Mayo Clinic press release called severe bipolar disorder.
And then there's former State Rep Derrick Smith, kicked out of the Illinois House after he was indicted for taking a $7,000 bribe from an FBI undercover agent. Well, he was leading by about 8 percentage points -- nearly 7,000 votes -- with 70% of precincts reporting.
In two red-hot US Senates on our borders, Fox News projects Democratic pickups. Wisconsin's Tammy Baldwin will beat Tommy Thompson and South bend Congressman Joe Donnelley defeats Richard Mourdock -- uproar after he said pregnancy resulting from rape would be God's will and he opposed abortion in those cases.
SenatorKirk also revealed for the first time Tuesday at the polls that President Obamadid call to check in and wish him well.
Aftermonths of intensive rehab, Sen. Kirk still moves very slowly. His left side wasbadly damaged when the stroke killed a part of his brain. His power of speech hascome back strong, evident as he told Fox Chicago that when he returns to theSenate in January, his top priority will be an environmental issue close to theheart of many on the North Shore lakefront.
