Police warn of attacks on Near North Side: Alert

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are warning Near North Side residents of a group of men beating and robbing people in the early morning hours.

A group of two to four men approach people walking on the sidewalk and repeatedly hit them with a blunt object or punch them then steal their property and run away, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The attacks happened at 4 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of West Division Street and 6:15 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of North Wells Street, police said.

The suspects are described as black men in their 20s, police said. They are all about 5-feet-9, 140 pounds, possibly with dreadlocks.
