Polls are open in Illinois, and voting appears steady in the Chicago-area.
Election Day has arrived and voters have been out since the polls opened at 6 a.m. They will stay open until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the election judges in Chicago, turnout is fairly strong here as the presidential election being of course the big draw this November.
At least thirty people stood in line at a polling station in Winnetka's New Trier High School, waiting for their chance to vote.
It's been an active campaign for more than a year for the presidential candidates.
Across the state, many other elections are up for grabs too.
One woman told FOX Chicago News' Patrick Elwood that she cast her ballot for the president. She believes he deserves to be re-elected but she is very nervous about his chances.
The economy was on the minds of many showing up to cast ballots.
Bill Murphy says he voted for Democrat Barack Obama because he thinks the president deserves more time to make his policies work. The 60-year-old teacher says the country doesn't need "massive change" right now.
But Charles Hoffman says he voted for Mitt Romney. The 60-year-old businessman calls Obama a "fine gentleman" but says the country now needs a manager. Hoffman says Romney would bring good management to the White House.
Voter turnout in Cook County and in the suburbs is down a little bit this presidential election year.
In 2008, 478,000 early votes were cast. In 2012 that number is down 3.4 percent.
