Attorney asks for new judge for Naperville babysitter

WHEATON, Ill. (Associated Press) -

The attorney for a Naperville woman charged in the stabbing deaths of her 7-year-old son and the 5-year-old girl she was babysitting has asked for a new judge.

Elzbieta Plackowska appeared before DuPage County Judge John Kinsella on Thursday.

But the Daily Herald reports her case was reassigned to Judge Robert Kleeman on Friday at the request of public defender Mike Mara. Mara declined to comment on the request.

The defense asked that the case go to anyone except Kinsella and the judge who presided over Marilyn Lemak's trial. She's serving a life sentence for killing her three children in Naperville in 1999.

Mara also asked for a Polish interpreter for her Nov. 21 arraignment, saying she speaks English but is more comfortable in her native language.
