A Northern Illinois University student was found dead in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house at 1020 W. Hillcrest Drive Friday morning.
Around 10:14 a.m., police officers responded to a call at the off-campus house after David Bogenberger, 19, was found unresponsive in his bed. Bogenberger was pronounced dead on the scene around 10:45 a.m.
Friends who knew the teen are in disbelief.
"I couldn't believe it honestly," said Zeb Beg. "I was like, there's no way. It's such a shocker to hear that, he's 19. I was like, no way that's not possible."
Friends say Bogenberger's family recently relocated to Florida.
The teen, who was a triplet, attended Palatine high school and stayed in Illinois to pursue a degree in business at Northern Illinois University.
"There was not one person that didn't like him," said neighbor Jergis Rahmoun. "That's how nice of a kid he was, he was such a sweetheart."
A complete autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to determine the exact cause of death. According to Dennis Miller from the DeKalb County Coroner's office, alcohol had been consumed in the house. There were no signs of foul play or trauma.
The fraternity released this statement to Fox Chicago News: "The Eta Nu Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has ceased chapter operations in order to give our full cooperation to our local authorities and the investigation."
Bogenberger lived in a dormitory on campus and was not a resident at the fraternity.
University spokesman Brad Hoey also says that, based on interviews with other students, officials believe alcohol might have been a factor.
