Bob Sirott's One More Thing about urging people to vote

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about urging people to vote.

41 states across the country participated in something called "trick or vote" Wednesday, where thousands of young people in costumes went door to door reminding folks about the election. And both candidates are now working hard to get out the vote. My question is: after all the speeches, debates, commercials, and a campaign that seems like it has been going on forever, what kind of person needs to be reminded to vote?

When it comes to selecting the next President of the United States, do you want it to be determined by people who have to be persuaded to vote? Anyone who needs to be reminded about exercising the right and privilege that many have died for probably doesn't care enough to be an informed voter. The decision we'll be making next Tuesday is too important to not be taken seriously.

In the last presidential election in 2008, about 57% of eligible voters cast their ballot. Sadly, many more don't register so they're not even counted as eligible voters. If someone doesn't care enough to want to participate, I hope they do us all a favor and don't vote.
