CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Chicago Alderman Matt O'Shea is calling for tough new fines aimed at people who show up drunk at the South Side Irish Parade.
The 19th Ward alderman -- whose ward hosts the parade -- wants to hike fines to keep people in line.
The current fines for having an open liquor bottle are $100 to $500s, but O'Shea wants that to be $1,000 or face six months in jail.
He also wants fines for minors arrested for public intoxication increased from $25 to $500 with 25 hours of community service.
O'Shea says the new and improved South Side parade went off without a hitch this year and he wants to keep it that way. It had been cancelled a few years back because police had so many problems with drinking and other problems.
