With many children expected to be out trick-or-treating Wednesday, Kane County Sheriff's police are warning parents in light of an incident involving a suspicious man Tuesday near west suburban Maple Park.
At about 5:15 p.m., sheriff's deputies went to 46W440 Beith Rd. for a report of a suspicious vehicle that pulled into the driveway. According to a release from the sheriff's office, the driver asked an 8-year-old boy if he wanted a ride.
The boy ran to the house and his mother heard the vehicle stop, looked outside and saw the vehicle, though police were unable to locate it when they arrived.
The woman described it as a maroon 1990s-model 4-door, possibly a hatchback, with a loud muffler. The driver was described as an older man with white hair and glasses, and a "wrinkly" face, according to police.
There were no additional reports in the area, police said.
Sheriff's police point out that with Halloween today, the incident should be a reminder for parents to make sure they keep an eye on children while they are outside, and to talk to them about strangers.
