Sandy has major impact on presidential election campaigns

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
President Obama will tour New Jersey Wednesday, along with Governor Chris Christie, to get a first hand look at the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Millions of people are still in the dark along the east coast Wednesday morning, raising questions about whether they will be able to vote next Tuesday.
Some people said the election should be postponed, but that is not very likely.
Congress set the election date back in 1845, making it the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The president does not have the constitutional power to cancel or reschedule the election.
Only Congress has the power to change the date – again, this is very unlikely.
Many states in the area hit by Sandy are now scrambling to replace voting locations hit by the storm, and to come up with the generators and communications equipment needed to record votes.
Michelle Obama hopes to return home to Washington Wednesday after being stuck in Chicago for the past three nights.
The First Lady paid a visit to her husband's downtown campaign headquarters Tuesday, and made phone calls to supporters.

She has been unable to return home because of the high winds and rain caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Republican challenger Mitt Romney attended a storm relief event in Ohio Tuesday, and halted campaign events as Sandy struck the East Coast.
