CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The former head of Chicago Public Schools is getting quite a severance check from the city.

The Tribune reports Jean-Claude Brizard will walk away with $250,000 a year of paid health insurance for him and his family and a glowing letter of recommendation.

The letter was part of the severance agreement which Brizard signed on October 10, the same day he resigned after 17 months on the job.

Brizard will stay on board until the end of the year to aid in Barbara Byrd-Bennett's transition to CEO.
