Bob Sirott's One More Thing about Clark Kent leaving the Daily Planet

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about that mild mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper leaving the print world.

It's official. In the latest issue of superman comics, Clark Kent has quit his job at the Daily Planet and will probably start an internet blog. This is worse than Newsweek going digital.

In the story currently playing out in the comic, Kent laments the state of journalism with its emphasis on entertainment over hard news. Maybe Clark has had it with the Kardashians. Even a man of steel can take only so much of that drivel.

DC Comics, the home of Superman, says this is an effort to bring Clark Kent and Superman into the twentieth century.

Why? We need to escape from today. Superman has endured just fine for generations. Millions of writers dream of creating an iconic character. Why mess around when you have one? Tinkering with our childhood heroes can be more dangerous than kryptonite. Where does it end? The Lone Ranger switching to a hockey goalie's mask? The Incredible Hulk slimming down on a vegan diet? A hybrid Prius Batmobile?

Great Caesar's ghost.
