Health officials aware of meningitis outbreak before telling public

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Health officials in Indiana knew that six clinics received medication linked to a meningitis outbreak one week before they notified the public.

E-mails obtained by the news agency says it held off on notifying the public in order to give doctors a chance to prepare for questions from patients, according to the Associated Press.

Indiana has reported 44 cases of meningitis linked to the contaminated medications. Three people have died there.
