One man was killed and another one injured in an apartment fire early Saturday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The fire occurred about 1:30 a.m. at a building in the 1600 block of North Central Park Avenue, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Sean Flynn said.
A man suffered second and third degree burns as well as severe smoke inhalation, Flynn said. That man, Jaime Martinez, 43, was pronounced dead at St. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center at 2:05 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy Saturday found that he died of carbon monoxide intoxication and inhalation of smoke and soot from an apartment fire, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.
A second man was also taken to St. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fire Media Affairs had no additional details on the fire Saturday. The police Bomb and Arson Unit is investigating the fire.
