Pay attention to Cloud Atlas, pass on Fun Size and The Sessions is the best: Zwecker

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

On Fridays I often say, "There's a wide range of films opening today." But this Friday, it's truer than ever!

Ranging from a sweeping time-traveling epic to a tween comedy to a film that already is generating Oscar buzz – there's really something for everyone opening this weekend.

Chicago's own Wachowskis, along with co-director Tom Twyker, bring us "Cloud Atlas." It's an amazing time-traveling epic that is visually stunning, but frankly often very confusing and obtuse.

You have six characters playing about another six roles – each - taking place in the past, present and future.

The basic concept: Individual lives impact one another throughout time, with one soul transformed from a killer to a hero, simply due to a single act of kindness.

The film features an all-star cast, including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jim Broadbent. I definitely recommend "Cloud Atlas" - but be prepared to pay attention!

As for "Fun Size," I simply wish this was more fun.

It's about a sarcastic high school senior, played by Victoria Justice, who can't wait to head to college. But first she has to watch her little brother on Halloween night so that mom can go off and party-hearty with her much younger boy-toy boyfriend.

Of course when little Albert disappears, we're taken on a wild ride of a chase to find him.

In the end, you wish the producers of "Fun Size" had merely lost the script and never made this lame comedy.

This is one you can skip.

One of the best films of the year is opening in the Chicago area Friday.

"The Sessions," based on the poignant memoirs of California journalist and poet Mark O'Brien, is an amazing tale about a man in an iron lung determined at age 38 to finally lose his virginity.

John Hawkes plays Mark, with a performance I'm convinced will snare him yet another Oscar nomination. Helen Hunt is terrific as his sex therapist, and William H. Macy is outstanding as Mark's priest and confessor.

We recently sat down with the stars here in Chicago...and we asked Macy about Helen Hunt's many nude scenes.

"The Sessions" is a film you can't afford to miss.
