Feels like summer: Temps could reach 80 Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected Wednesday with a possible high temperature of 80 degrees. The warm weather is expected to last into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, it is "extraordinarily unusual" to see 80 degree temperatures this late in the year. There have only been six years out of the past 141 that have seen 80-degree high temperatures in Chicago on or after October 24, the weather service said.

This year has seen a near record for the most number of 80-degree days in a year. So far in 2012, Chicago has seen 101 days with high temperatures at or above 80 degrees, which is tied for the third most number of 80-degree days ever in Chicago.

If Chicago fails to reach 80 degrees again this year, 2012 would go down tied for the seventh earliest last 80 degree day ever in the city.

The last time the city saw temperatures reach 80 degrees was September 12, when the high was 86 degrees, according to the weather service.
