Disney defends new Hispanic character Princess Sofia

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Walt Disney Company is defending a new Hispanic princess from critics who say the character is not ethnic enough.

A number of Hispanic groups claim she does not accurately portray the look of a Hispanic girl with fair skin and blue eyes.

Disney says Sofia is the child of Spanish and Scandinavian parents and is supposed to be of mixed heritage.

The company plans to meet with Hispanic groups to discuss the issue.

Sofia is set to debut on November 18.
