CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A photograph of a 93-year-old terminally ill WWII veteran showing his dedication to the democratic system is going viral.

The photo shows Frank Tanabe casting what will likely be his last ballot, and it has captured the hearts of tens of thousands of internet users.

The picture shows Tanabe lying in a hospital bed at home, as his daughter Barbara Tanabe helps him fill out his absentee ballot.

Doctors diagnosed Tanabe with an inoperable cancer tumor two months ago. He's been in hospice care for the past three weeks.

Despite all that, he has been determined to vote, eagerly asking when the ballot would be arriving. His daughter said he filled it out immediately when it came last week.

Since then 500,000 people saw his picture on Reddit after his grandson posted it. People left comments like "True patriotism," "This is America. Amen," and "Thank you, citizen."
