CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Ten people were injured when a rental truck hit a Chicago Transit Authority bus Sunday afternoon in the Montclare neighborhood on the Northwest Side, authorities said.

The truck hit the rear of the bus when it stopped at a red light in the 6700 block of West Belmont Avenue about 3:30 p.m., said police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss.

Nine people aboard the bus were injured and were listed in good condition at various hospitals, Purkiss said.

The driver of the truck—described as a 48-year-old man—was also injured and taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was listed in good condition, Purkiss said.

Police issued a citation to the driver from following the bus too closely, Purkiss said.

Fire Media Affairs originally said that the accident left one person in critical condition, seven in "stable" condition and one person in good condition.

Paramedics took three people to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, four people to Resurrection Medical Center and two people to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Purkiss said.

The accident caused authorities to initiate an EMS Plan 1, which sends five ambulances to the scene of an accident.
